I had the carb on my engine rebuilt about a year ago and now my engine is starting to give me problems again. Im not sure of the year of the engine but I think it is from the mid 1990s. The last time I went out it unexpectedly cut off while running but I was able to make it home but only with the chike fully open and pumping the bulb. Now i got brand new gas and oil and went to run it again and it would barely start then cut after a few seconds. I removed the spark plugs and cleaned them and now it will run but only if the choke is pulled out if presses in it revs and cuts off as if it is out of gas. I saw another post with a similar problem but never found a definitve answer. Thanks for any and all help.

Welcome to iboats!

If the motor will continue to run while pumping the bulb, you have a fuel delivery problem. You're bypassing the fuel pump by pumpimg the bulb. Check for a restriction in the tank pickup screen , tank vent open, and no vacume leaks in the tank to motor fuel hose. You can disconnect the fuel line at the carb, place hose in a can, and pull recoil starter rope. You should see fuel being pumped into the can , if the fuel pump is OK.

Well now it will run fine if the choke is pulled without pumping but when i go to quit choking it the engine cuts off like it is running out of gas

Classic dirty carb (low speed idle circuit). It's time again to clean carb internals with carb cleaner and blow out passages with compressed air. Sometimes leaving fuel in carb from previous year can turn to varnish and block internal passages. While you have carb apart, be sure to check float level and proper sealing of float needle and freedom of movement.

Well, you won't mess things up by following the cleaning procedures outlined in a service manual. It takes you step by step. Original OMC service manuals are the preferred manuals in my opinion. It's not a hard job , pretty easy ,really.
