I am looking for potential shipping charges, experiences and companies for shipping a 22' boat across the country, but I can't find an old thread to go back to, so I thought I would start a new thread so that it can be easly searched in the future and also help me out in the process.
I may need to ship our boat from Delaware to either California or Utah, two different very interested individuals. So any advice or help would be great. I have heard some mention that some trucking companies are looking for loads on their return across country, but I can't find too much info on this. Also I don't have any experience with any "boat movers".
Any help is greatly appreciated, as always...
Mike

Do yourself a favor and don't hire a backload shipment (i.e. the truckers looking to make a buck on the way back). That is an accident waiting to happen...

Go with a reputable company that specializes in moving boats.

Re: Shipping Boat from East to West Coast...

I am, (as we speak) having my boat moved from So. Carolina to Northern Calif. I have called every boat moving source I could find. It is much cheaper to have the boat towed back, assuming you have a solid road worthy trailer. My guess is, you will be quoted about three thousand dollars, If you trailer it back. If you choose to transport it on flat bed you are looking at about five grand. Whoever you go with, make sure you get a copy of their insurance policy and if it doesn't say "CARGO INSURANCE" on the policy, notify your carrier and tell them you are shipping your boat, so they can increase your coverage. You should also get a copy of the truckers DOT authority and check to make sure it is current and in effect for the area you are traveling. I was very fortunate, I was able to find a back haul on a flat bed that belongs to a friend of mines trucking company. Be very careful. If it sounds way to cheap, there is a reason. Good luck

I found a company on the web called "Truck-a-boat USA" They can be found at...
http://www.truckaboat.com/
The fellow named Bud was very helpful and will post your info on their web site. Transport operators check daily for loads going in their direction. Within Two days of posting my information, Bud called me with the names of several transporters who replyed. Bud gave me the numbers and I delt directly with the transporter. I found the rates to be about $1.60 per mile.
Good Luck,
Adam
