1999 rude ficht 225 cyl 1 no compression

My newly aquired engine has no compression cyl 1. Removed plugs all look about the same. Compression on other 5 cyls 115 lbs. removed injector for better vision and cyl seems carboned more than others. no debris present. cyl walls look ok but carboned. added oil to cyl still no compression. no oil or fluids in engine case. no signs external of leaks or damage. what would cause one cyl to loose compression and leave no obvious signs. will remove head if needed but is there somethingelse to try first. thanks troy

Welcome t!!!!!<br />Sorry for your issue. A piston with a crack or hole burned in it, or a blown out head gasket will cause a severe loss of compression without scoring a cyl wall. My guess is you'll never know until you pull the head for a good look.<br />Let us know what you find.<br />Good luck

I can look through injector port and plug hole and the piston looks intact going to use a bore scope tommorrow but would it be that hidden and I would have that 80-90 gear lube would have sealed enough to get 20-30 lbs.

Any repair will require head removal, so might as well pull it now and find the root cause. Does piston move when engine is cranked? Just a thought.<br />Any sizable penetration thru the piston or skirt will make the lube oil test useless. You may also have broken rings that shot out the exhaust or into the crankcase. <br />Only pulling the head and a thorough inspection will tell.<br />Good luck

Dont mix up the injectors if you take more than one off.<br /><br />If the center of the piston is OK, look over towards the exhaust port right on the top edge of the piston. But you may as well take the head off. It has to come off regardless of what's wrong.

OK, pulled the head off was pretty easy. Inside of #1 cyl on head looks like it has been cleaned not as much carbon build up as the rest of the cyl reliefs. Piston intact, but on the bock toward thead on the left lower side of cyl wall is scored, some metal teh ridge of cyl on lower sie has a couple of rough edges appears metal has been pushed out of cyl and is stuck fast on ridge. cyl 3 can still see honing cross hatch but when teh engine is turned over see some odd patterns that appear in the oil left on the cyl wall. what is my nextstep

Sounds like it scored the piston by the exhaust port. It's gotta come apart but before it comes apart we gotta figure out what did it and fix that. Otherwise it'll probably happen again. Any codes when you hooked up the laptop?

just oedered cable and cd $68.00, think it is going to be needed for the duration of ownership, should be here monday, then i'll find out. also specific shop manual wil be here about same time. I think I'm in for a real journey.

I have a 1998 (150 ficht ) Johnson. It SUCKS. I have had many problems many times. I can't find anyone in my area to repair it or to offer a repair for it. They tell me its a problem and to get another motor. Thye also tell me that it is very very very normal for # 1 to not have any compression. I have very low hours on this motor. maybe 50, I have had no satisfaction.

I'd trade it in for a new/used motor or power head while I still can before you waist to much time and money on it. It sounds like it needs a lott of work.

had to take to dealer to get codes read. onlycodes for AT Sensor out of range. Dealer was very short on trying to make a determination of what it needs. well my question is whetehr or not this engine rebuild is something the slighltly above average mechanically inclined guy can do hisself? once i get it apart where do I send it for machine work? and if the #1 cyl is the only one tore up do I do a complete rebuild kit or just one cyl? and being there are no other codes is it possible a stuck ring did all the cylinder scoring? what else do i need to check before I tear it down or rebuild it?

Don't waste your time or money on it. As soon as you fix it somthing else will brake / just not vary good motors
