1993 115hp Merc prop blowout I think ??????????

I recently purchased a1993 skeeter ss140 with a 115hp merc. It has a laser II 24p prop. When I take off at FT it will get about half way out of the hole then the rpms shoot up to about 5600 and it seems to lose forward bite. is this what is considered prop blowout and how can I rectify this situation? I have marked the prop and then checked for slippaged in the hub and found none.please help. and thaks in advance.

Certainly sounds like ventilation.Check the level of the ventilation(Cavitation plate).Should be level with or 1-2 inches above the bottom of the hull.Also trim the motor right in before you try WOT holeshots then trim out after you get up & running.Should solve your prob Is the prop in good condition?Dings & pieces missing can cause all sorts of probs...

i was setting up a boat with a 70 hp . changed the trim up it would loose its bite droped it down one notch. didnt have any probablem . papasage

Thanks Sharkat, I have been starting out of the hole with trim 100% down. when it is just me in the boat I can back off the throttle and baby it up on plane when I put even 1 more person in with me forget it. it aint coming out of the hole. <br /><br />Mellowyellow, Yes I am sure we marked the hub and the prop with a chisel and ran it with several ill planed hole shots . the prop did not move. <br /><br />Papasage, thanks I will look at this again.

One more thing. I looked at my cav plate again. it is about 1/2 inch above the bottom of the hull. Does this sound right?

Does that prop come with vent holes? Some of the Merc's do and you may need to plug them.<br /><br />RFish

Yes this prop has vent holse in the side. What would you use to plug them up with as to keep from throwing the prop out of balance?
