I'm new to this board. Hoping someone can help. I have a 1985 mariner 115hp inline 6.Serial # A180935. Cylinders 1,3,5 aren't firing. I checked the stator ohms per maintenace manual. 6.5 k ohms. A little high but not open or shorted. I also checked the resistance on trigger coils and they were within specs. I swapped switching boxes and problem stayed with 1,3,5. I checked voltage at idle from stator. 1,3,5 was about 35 volts v.a.c.. 2,4,6 was about 140 v.a.c.. I think stator is bad. But, someone I talked to here local said it could also be the trigger. Any ideas to narrow it down would be greatly appriciated.

How can I narrow it down between the two? Either one is pretty expensive. I would like to know for sure before I purchase. Thanks in advance...

Thanks for the advice so far. Today I swapped #5 trigger wire(purple) with #2 trigger wire(purple). Spark still stayed with #2. No spark on #5. What is this telling me? Also, I looked for idle stabilizer. I don't think I have one. It is on my service manual drawings but I haven't located it on my motor. Maybe previous owner removed?? Thanks again.

Sounds like it points in the Stator direction!

switch stator leads i think should be two sets of two yellow to voltage regs, is there two voltage regs? if so see if misfire reverses. unfortunately these elec problems w/ mercs can be very expensive. i tkink stator is bad.
