I was told I was buying a 1996 Mercury ProMax 225. It has a Black Max 225 cowl. Was told orig owner changed the cowl because ProMax engines not allowed in local fishing tournaments & he cheated. Know for sure the S/N on the motor is 0B176194, has 3 dueces & is 2-cycle. Also told the orig owner thought it was 4-cycle, didn't add oil to gas & burned up the motor 1st week & Mercury replaced the powerhead for free. Both hard to believe. I replaced the gearbox w/20" 2.5L Sport Master & sales worm from Jaco's Marine in TN said that ProMax's were EFI f/day 1. It's on a Bullet 20 XD & is extremely fast (84+ on radar)Anyone know what I have?

It was too dark to read the S/N when I got home but I did find out that the modifications include Bobs high performance exaust, Boysen Reeds, 2.5 Carbs. I know this doesn't help with my original question, but would somebody remove the EFI and install these carbs to increase the top end. I've clocked it on gps at 86.2mph.

Hey Trooper251, the S/N on the plate is definately 0B176194, which isn't listed on the site you gave me. Is the S/N anywhere else on the motor... under the cowl?

Bud:<br />Go to http://www.mercurypartsexpress.com and follow the 'parts for Mercury Marine products' link. It will ask you for your serial # (and zip code). Once you input those, it will tell you what model that serial number is.

Ungodly;<br /><br />I tried that link and it tells me I've got a model 1150726. I look at some of the parts and it's talking about 135 hp Marathon. I'm not sure what I've got.. but I am sure it's not that.<br /><br />Thanks for trying,<br />Buddy
