Go with the newer of the two. It has higher power and it is newer.

Bob

Rodster, I've had only one Mercury, one Force, and two Johnnies. Out of all the motors, I think the Merc and the Force were the best. The Force I had was a 1992, which if I remember was NOT a merc. But after that Force was made by merc...(not sure what year tho, "if I remeber correctly"). Sorry, my thought is that if you have a Force already, the Mercury would be a better choice due to the shift cabling "MAY" work... not sure tho.. maybe someone else would have better insight on this also. Good luck!

Would the Merc not also be under warranty?

Add to the obvious, that a US Merc is much better off when it comes to service, number of dealers etc. etc.

One day you are gonna need parts and knowledge..

Consider the parts and fitting needed. Remote controls etc. should be included - otherwise will raise the total cost.

I think (no matter Yammies are great too) that in this case the Merc is the right choise. On top of that, it's a great engine (rather good mpg too as it is 4-cyl).

G'day. Check out the specifications. I dont have the figures with me but I think that the Merc is a lot bigger in cubes than the Yam.
