mercury audio alarm

I have a '94 mercury 175hp. I just replaced the Bell Audio alarm and then ran it in saltwater. The audio alarm sounds when I run the engine for 4-5 minutes between 3000-3400 rpm. If I increase rpm to greater than 3600 or bring it back to idle the alarm will stop after 15-20 seconds. I replaced the thermostats but no luck fixing the problem. The water pump is pushing water out without a problem

The oil reservoir is full and the engine was thoroughly flushed after the saltwater fishing trip.
Any ideas or suggestions.

Re: mercury audio alarm

G'day. Was the alarm a constant beeeeep or a beep beep? constant is overheat, beep beep is oil. has the motor been used much in the salt? there may be salt blocking some of the water passages. There is a water pressure poppett valve low on the block stbd side. Strip that and check the diaphragm. There can be many reasons for your problem. check the above first.
