Bolted Seats?

I just bought a 1990 Galaxie V1600 with a 110hp Johnson motor. I don't have much experience with boats, and the woman I bought it from didn't know much about it. She got it in a divorce and now was wanting to get rid of it. So it was a great deal, great condition and runs great, but I noticed it has fold out lounge seats that are not bolted to the floor. Is this typical, and if not, what is the best way to go about bolting the seats? I woudn't think drilling a hole would be the best thing on a boat without know what you're doing first.

Best post some pictures for the most responsible advice. You are smart not to just go drilling thru the floor without some understanding and guidance.

Are you talking about descriptive pictures that show the boat floor and seats?

Here is a link to the general pictures I have. Once you click on it, the menu on the left has 'Boat Pictures' on the bottom of it.

http://sherry-leavings.magix.net/

Normally the seats are boltd down but it looks like these were recovered or replaced. They may have just neglected to finish reinstalling them. Look around under the seats and in the floor to see if there are any holes or evidence of the original mounts.

When bolting down...bolt length will be be most important consideration..you might want to consider only bolting in along the bottom closest to the middle of the boat. I am restoring a boat now that the last idiot..I mean owner...screwed right through the hull!

I have seen some people glass in a wooden mounting base and then just screwed into that.

Remove carpet from location under where you want seat. Use atleast 1/2" pressure treated ply...a coat of epoxy...then epoxy it to floor...re-carpet over that. Should be secure and no worries aobut going thru.

-JustMrWill

My seats are really similar to yours, they will fold flat or sit up. Mine have a hinge in the middle and a hinge towards the stern of the boat. That is the only way mine are attached to the boat.

I have those same type of seats and mine are screwed to the floor with wood screws through a piece of support in the bottom of the seats. Two screws in the front portion. I don't know if they came that way but it appears to be original to the boat.
