Sea Nymph info?
Does anyone know of any web sites for older sea nymph's?
In two weeks I will travel 2hrs to look at a 1980 17' Sea Nymph W/70hp outboard, and would like to get as much research done before I make a possible offer.

Re: Sea Nymph info?

my first boat was a 19' 1990 sea nymph fish n ski with 90 rude. the most fun and easyest boat to maintain. i know lowe bought them out a couple of years back maybe try them.

problems can be: rotten transom, loose rivets, rotten floor, rotten plywood behind coaming (if it has it), waterlogged foam (foam looks like regular styrofoam), make sure the windshield closes and opens if it has walk thru and that it is braced well (mine was secured with machine screws and not the sturdyest) look for bad gas tank

mine was cosmetically excellent, but the coaming was starting to rot, transom was solid as was floor, a few rivets leaked a little but nothing major installed a float switch. overall wish I still had it.

i would check compression on motor make sure it runs well (test ride mandatory)goes in and out of gear smoothly without stalling, and dont baby it, if it has oil injection I would run 50:1 in tank until I verified it was using oil from tank, make sure lower unit oil is not watery.

I actually know the son of the person that is selling it. I guess it has only been used 4 times and then tucked away in a garage since. He said it is as close as you could get to brand new! He started his own business and never had a chance to use it again.

sounds like a winner if that is true. check it out though make sure the motor didn't fry in 1985 and has sat since. you should be able to tell if that's true by the amount of wear being disproportionate to the age.

I just did some research on my 1985 SEARS Gamefisher. It is actually a model 1256 Sea Nymph made for SEARS. Take a look at THIS LINK. Hope this helps. Good luck.

I have a 1978 FM-161 that only takes upto a 55hp motor so probobly not the same model. I have a 50hp merc. classic from 2003 installed. I will need to replace the floor this winter(already did the livewell top and storage compartment top. It sits outside with a auto bilge pump so has seen some sun and weather.
Do you know the model number as with a 70hp it is probobly a diff. model. Mine is alumn. and like I said it sits outside and doesn't appear to have any leaks in it.
If is in great shape the motor could be the thing to check out as with non use and not knowing how put away could give problems.
