What to use for Gasket on Crankcase cover

Finishing up a rebuild on a Merc 90 3cyl and my book says to use a loctite gasket kit in place of an actual paper gasket on the crankcase cover. Problem is that item is hard to find around here and im pressed for time. Is there an equal substiture such as any high heat form-a-gasket sealant anyone can recommend that I use.

DO NOT I MEAN DO NOT!!!! Use anything but perfect seal..... Greatest stuff made!!!! Not to expensive... Works on everything... Quicksliver product

when rebuilding you should NEVER be pressed for time. Shortcuts get paid back with short lifetimes!

im not looking for a shortcut. Im looking for an EQUIVALENT alternative. This is not brain surgery here. All I want to do is seal up a crankcase cover. Its not like im jimmy rigging needle bearings with tooth picks or anything

ok perfect seal sounds like the way I will go. Where can I get this? Marine Shop or automotive shop?

i used permatex anaerobic gasket maker the item # on the tube is 51813 its a blue tube tube about 4 inches long i got it at bumber to bumber for i think 12 bucks

Has to be marine... Possible dealer. Should be around 12 a bottle with a brush in it. Thanks

hey jobassing that was the option I was originally thinking of going with but if S.T. is gonna swear this much over the other stuff ill give it a try. Thanx guys for the responses. Now if only painting my hull was that simple

I didnt realize you were right down the street from me. I take it you are a marine shop. Is this an item you have in stock or need to order. I am interested and can drive down to get it if I have an early work day this week.

ok that was what the mec at the mariena here swers by so i just thought i'd give ya an option but thats all i could get it this one boat town as hard as it is to row i would use the best i could find so good luck
