lower unit cracked

I have bought a second hand 1987 35 HP Mercury o/b.
I now discover it has a crack above the prop, and behind the sacrificial trim fin, going all the way across the housing. It has been welded before but is cracked again. I have had the boat in the water and it seems to go ok. I beleive the bolt above the trim fin is all that is holding the section in place.Although the crack does not go vertical through the little flutes. Does this sound like I need a new houising or should I just keep on boating.
Regards Skeeta

Re: lower unit cracked

If your lower unit is not taking on water and contaminating the oil I would keep going. Do plan on getting it rewelded again soon.

Bob
