I bourght a Chrysler boat that has a Merc 850 (Can) serial # 7083068 Year 76-77. Here's my situation, the plug from the remote has been cut off. I have the Factory service manuel, and have all the wires hooked up correctly. went to start the engine and got no spark, now by looking at the wiring diagram there is one wire (white) F pin, that is required for run (A-F) but dead-ends at the plug on the remote side and does'nt come out to the engine harness. Is this white wire connected internally to another inside the plug on the remote side, which I do not have?So I can't cut it open to verify where it goes.So if it connected intrenaly which wire does it connect to? I believe this white (F pin) wire needs to be connected to the switch box due to the fact that the Remote is being hard wired to the engine just don't know which terminal to connect to.Sure could use any assistance you can give. They say this is a real puzzler, guess no one has had to hard wire the remote to the engine. but was told the engine ran and the white wire was connected to the engine

Tony Galvan

Re: Wiring expert needed or someone that has run into this

Hey Tone, I too am working on my new (old) boat and 1972 80 hp Merc. It appears from what you said that we have identical wiring so here goes.. Mine shows the white wire being given 12 volts on run and start. It travels down the harness to pin "F" as you guessed which goes to the distributor via the plastic stand-off attached to the engine block. It just powers the distributor only, nothing else. To test this, you might just jumper a lead from hot side of the starter selenoid (+12 hot) direct to the
white lead of the distributor and fire her up.

Tony,
I dont have a diagram for your motor but for
1100ss-950ss
Shows white wire from harness to switch box.
Looking down on the box there is one terminal on the right and 4 on the left.top is black wire to
coil assm. next down is tach.connection.
Third down is white wire.Forth terminal is 2 red
wires one to harness connector and one to the rectifier. Hope this is some help diagram is very small and dates about 1966.
Also try this site.www.merlincorp.com/~barfitup
All kinds of Merc. info.Though not sure of date.
