Thanks Forktail . Firstly I am not pulling a skier , if I did I don't think they would stay up. Secondly Mercury have no 4 stroke carbs available. They are into efi's now . So I can't try out a new carb . My initial question way back was merc vs honda . I was thinking that I may trade in my merc for a honda and wanted to know consumers thoughts on this .

I looking at a Merc manual for 40/45/50/50 bigfoot dated July 1997. Manual shows an acceleration pump with hoses to each carb. If you are having bogging problems, this would be first thing to check, then sync/link, and engine temp. I havent worked on one of these yet, but sounds like the 2 merc techs may have skipped one phase of there training.

I also seen post somewhere that Honda had extended there engine warranty to 10 years for block corrosion, someone check me out on this.

JB that SUZ is looking better everyday.

Scorpio, I am about as far from a Merc fan as one can get and still be fair minded.

I am no principal. I speak for myself only, as I said, Lost Canadian. You, on the other hand, have no license to speak for others on this board who may object to being misled, nor do you have license to play JB baiting games. If you have a problem with me saying what is on my mind, you may Email me and we can discuss it privately.

I am sorry you are having problems, Scorpio. I have my own beefs with Brunswick so I sympathise with what your REAL problem is. My request is that you tell us the TRUTH when you post.

Good luck. :)

Thanks CLANTON ; yes they checked the hoses and pump ( lots of pressure ) engine temp was good .
Is the sync / link by the flywheel ? if it is ,yes it was adjusted . If not I'll ask my dealer mechanic . thanks

There are some advantages to carb motors they are les expensive to fix and lighter simpler. all carbs are not the same quality the honda carbs are on the top shelf very efficient ,I would not hesitate buying a honda because of carbs alone

Soooooo funny.
Mention Honda and you'll get every other brands owner running out of thier corners swinging.

Pump bulb......lift choke lever.....turn key......
1001...1002.....START!.......high idle for 10 seconds.....idle speed. Lets go fishin'
Thats what my Honda carburators(3) did for me at 5 AM this morning.

Can't use EFI for bait, who needs it?

Right with you SkinnyWater.. I have a Honda 130 and it purrs at start up and keeps purring all day.. If I was to buy a smaller $ stroke I think the Yamaha is as good as any..

Suzuki, Yamaha, Honda, or Tohatsu and Mercury.
All good stuff.

Dealer/factory support is by FAR the most important consideration when seperating these.
Even when deciding between carbs or EFI.

However, it doesn't make any sense to recommend an outsorced engine. If you want a Suzuki, buy a Suzuki. The Johnson may be the same....BUT....it will take back seat to the parent company...always. Same with the Mercury/Yamaha connection. If you get into a backordered part situation from Suzuki the Johnson owner will be SOL.

While your here whybee. Check this out.
I've ordered this, haven't gotten it yet.
It's $46 US. I'll post to this forum for us Honda owners when I get it and verify it works.
I have every reason to beleive it'll work fine.
So much for those carb woes we're supposed to have.

http://www.denniskirk.com/powervendor/lists/partlist.asp?serverid=nlStreet&t
ype=19&subtype=carbtools&search=search&SD1=Motion+Pro

Howdy Scorpio.

My concern is with the "trick question". I think you would have gotten more authentic responses if you had told us up front what was really on your mind.

I tend to be very direct, which leads some folk to name calling. I speak only for myself; not for other members and not for iboats. Fellow members can speak for themselves and Admin5 speaks for iboats.

I think that your continuing problems are the result of your dealer and Brunswick trying to overwhelm the fault by throwing parts and "rebuilds" at it. You need an expert troubleshooter to diagnose your troubles without the "let's try this" disease.

Good luck. :)

Scorpio,
If they won't admit they are at fault in this case, then you have no other option then to keep bugging them to fix your engine. Sure you can call Merc in the meantime and write them a letter as well (that might help).

Believe me if you bug your dealer enough to fix it they will, just to save themselves the embarassment and to get you off their backs. Eventually they will get so tired of seeing you in their shop that they will fix it. And you are under warranty as well right ??

Don't give up !
