Hi,

I have a 1964 Mercury 500 that I purchased recently.
It mostly runs off less than 4 cylinders and occationally would fire up on all 4 and go well.

I pulled out the leads to determine which one was missing, and thought I had it as # 4. I replaced the plug but it is still only firing on all cylinders occasionally. I have removed all the plugs and replaced them, but the miss still comes and goes. Where can I look next? It looks like the wires could be carbon. Could this be a source of problems? Could there be anything in the distributor that I should look at. I did not want to fiddle unneceseraly. Your help is appreciated.

Willie

Swap the coils and see if the problem moves. If so, You know what to buy. Also do a compression check.
