Please excuse my ignorance..
This is my first boat..

I have just bought a 1985 50hp merc on a half cab boat.I was checking out the wiring while running it and noticed on the side of the motor where all the wires are connected into a resin filled junction, one of the wires was very corroded with plastic covering missing (Covered with plastic tape). Are these wires high tension and require high level of insulation or just basic plastic covered wires ? The wire that is worn is one of three coming from a cable which travels up towards the flywheel. Secondly the spark plugs are unlike other 2 and 4 stroke plugs. They seem to have no electrode to adjust.
They are BHUW-2 NGK's
I suppose you guys are gonna say "Buy a workshop manual"
These Outboards are WEIRD.

They're not 20,000v high-tension, ordinary insulation should be OK. That said, I'd wonder why the insulation is gone - might have overheated. Absent a manual, there's good wiring documentation on these motors at Rapair's website.

neuterlize corrosion & insulate with liquid electrical tape bought at any hardware/walmart etc.... blow dry before application wires are going to your stator
