Can anyone let me know what the compression should be for my 35hp Mercury. I think it is a 1994 model. Having trouble getting enough power to get up on plane. 13.5ft Quintrex aluminium with 2 adults & 2 kids on board.
Could be propellor ??? Motor runs & starts well, just not enough oomph...

'Mornin'Ian,

Sorry, can't speak to the "new" compression spec BUT!,.... As a rule of thumb, you want to see all cylinders at 100+ psi with all reading within 10% of each other.

What pitch are you running on your prop?
What is rpm at WOT?
Is this a new problem?
How long have you had this setup?
You may just be "over proped"

Let us know what you find. Lots of really sharp guys here. I sure you'll be planing out in no time.

Good Luck
HAVE FUN!

Thanks to Klondike7 for your response. Yes, we were over propped! Have changed from a 15 pitch to a 12 pitch and going well. Have had fun fishing and even managed to catch some!
