1983 Merc 25HP

Motor not getting power. Will run but not at full speed. Need help trouble shooting the problem. New plugs have been installed. W ill go in reverse also just not at full speed.

Hmmmmmmmmmm..................<br /><br />What did the plugs look like? Rich? Lean?<br /><br />A manual would help you a lot.<br /><br />Does the engine race but fail to make speed?<br /><br />Compression still good on both cylinders?<br /><br />Does it pop and sputter or just dog out?<br /><br />Does it sound as if only one cylinder is firing?<br /><br />Does pulling the choke want to add a birst of power when the problem is occuring?<br /><br />Does giving the fuel line bulb a squeeze want to add a birst of power when the problem is occuring?

I suspect fouled carburetor.Of course with no more info than I have on the problem that's just a shot from the hip,although a common performance problem associated with two stroke outboards.I suggest a manual specific to your engine for assisting with troubleshooting and servicing.
