speedometer hose on merc '99

Hi fellow captains :) <br /><br />I have a 50 hp merc from '99<br />The other day the hose to the speedometer got disconnected by mistake. Now I don't know where to reconnect it to the engine..<br />Anyone know where this hose has to be connected??<br /><br />thanx.<br /><br />Have a nice day

There should be a "fin" of sorts on the bottom of the transom outside of the hull. It's called a pettit fitting, and it's purpose is to skim the water, and sense it's pressure,which is relayed thru that hose to the gauge (which is just a pressure gauge,scaled in MPH instead of PSI).<br />So look for a point on that fitting to attach the haose to, or trace it up from that point.

I believe that some Mercs had a fitting on the lower unit for a speedo pick-up tube. Look around down in front of the prop on the front side of the lower unit for a fitting that the hose will fit on.<br /><br />Unless, of course, you have one of these on the rear of the hull.<br /><br />

Aaaah thanx alot mates, you guys made my day :D <br />I have one of these "pettit fittings" on the hull, close to the engine :) <br /><br />have a nice day.
