9.8 merc 110 help please!!!!!!!!!!!

Purchased a 1971 merc 9.8 #3088701 used and just put in a carb kit and plugs. the manual says the empeller should be changed every year. Is that true? It seems to be running a little hot and I don't notice any water coming out of the hole on the lower left side of the motor. How do I know if it is pumping good? Is it a difficult job to replace the empeller if it needs one? The main thing I want to know is how to check it and should water be coming out of the hole on the motor? Any help would be appreciated.<br /> Jimbo

You certainly should see water from the tell tale. If the cylinder head and exhaust plate are too hot to touch for a couple seconds while the motor is running, it's overheating. Impellers are not too tough to replace, and are cheap insurance. I replace mine every 2 seasons, depending on how many hours the motors have been run. Get a manual and swap yours out, especially if you don't know when the last ime it was changed.

Thanks a lot for the info I will be replacing the impeller this week. This waas the first time a posted anything on this site. This is fantastic for me because of my lack of knowledge <br />and some bad experiences I have had with repair work I've had done. Hopefully changing the impeller will go well but if I have any questions I know at least there are some ears out there with more experience than I have.<br /> Thanks again,<br /> Jimbo
