I had to drive pretty far (60 miles each way), but the dealer got me in and out in 5 hours today for my 2000 40hp merc to 2003 75hp Merc repower. They also gave me an additional $200 off because my trade was extra clean.

How can i break my motor in properly? The manual just says to mix 50:1 oil and gas in the tank, and to vary the throttle for the first two hours, but I know there is a better way to break it in. What do you guys recommend? Thanks

P.S This thing is a beast compared to the 40hp!

SS - Follow the manual. You will protect your warranty that way.

SS,

Congratulations!

The manual sounds just right. By mixing 50:1 you are essentially doubling the oil because it's oil injected.

Very the speed often and don't run it up for at least two hours.

FOLLOW THE MANUAL EXACTLY.

djohns is correct. normally double oil for 10hrs, since yours is oil injected 50:1 will put you there.

Thanks for the replies. The manual sounded kinda vague, but if that's hwat you guys think I should follow, then I guess it's enough. This motor should push my 16 foot Avenger aluminum pretty good!

Don't know about knots, but mph should approach 40 or a bit more.

lol, the 40 wasn't enough power for the boat. It is the base motor that came with the package. It seemed that I always had to "lug" the motor to stay on plane, I didn't like to have to keep it redlined to go 28mph either. The 75hp will allow me to cruise better without reving the heck out of it, and give me more top end which is always welcome :)
