Please help. I have an older mercury 700 outboard serial number 4827697. through a bunch of stupid steps on my part i removed and lost the old key switch for the ignition.Ipurchased a new one, but the wire colors are not an exact cross match to the manual schematics. can any one give me the proper connection details? hear is what i have.
WIRING FROM BOAT MOTOR:
-YELLOW- to neutral switch with an aditional lead.appears to be yellow also. not connected- i disconnected it from old switch
-RED- not connected- i disconnected it from old switch
-BLACK- not connected- i disconnected it from old switch
-ORANGE- not connected- i disconnected it from old switch
-WHITE- not connected- i disconnected it from old switch
-GRAY- not connected- i disconnected it from old switch
-BROWN-to remote control plug-in

NEW SWITCH WIRING:
-RED (Y'S TO CREATE TWO CONNECTION POINTS)
-BLACK WITH YELLOW STRIPE (Y'S TO CREATE TWO CONNECTION POINTS)
-YELLOW WITH BLACK STRIPE
-YELLOW WITH RED STRIPE
-BLACK (Y'S TO CREATE TWO CONNECTION POINTS)
-PURPLE (Y'S TO CREATE TWO CONNECTION POINTS)
can anyone deciper this information to help me hook up the switch correctly? Mercury was no help on wire colors. i have researched the color scheme of the new switch, but left this information out of my post so as not to lead any reponces based upon my unverified information. ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't have enough info on the new switch.
You need to know what actions take place when the switch is in any given position, and go with the old wire code, attaching to the swich where the action takes place. If you don't have that info yourself, you must get an ohm meter, and map it all out.
I can, however, help with original wiring.

-YELLOW- to neutral switch with an aditional lead.appears to be yellow also. not connected- i disconnected it from old switch
This is "START", and goes to the solenoid small lug at the motor. This will be "B" on the old switch

-RED- not connected- i disconnected it from old switch
Main Buss positive. Goes to positive battery. This will be "A" on the old switch.

-BLACK- not connected- i disconnected it from old switch
Common Ground..Goes to battery negative, and motor frame. This is "D" on the old switch.

-ORANGE- not connected- i disconnected it from old switch

This is "KILL". It is connected (thru the ign switch to the black. It goes to "E" on the old switch.
-WHITE- not connected- i disconnected it from old switch
You have trim? or tach? If not, it is one leg of Choke only. If you do, it is hot to those devices too. It is "F" on the old switch..

-GRAY- not connected- i disconnected it from old switch
This is the other leg of the electric choke ,going to the choke solenoid. It goes to the choke switch, or push choke in ignition switch
-BROWN-to remote control plug-in
Tachometer, not going to switch, but a three-prong jack for the tach
