I have a 1997 Mercury 90 HP Force.
Motor will trim up fine at idle, very slow speed, or when motor is turned off. However, as soon as I give it some throtle, the motor will drop back down into the water if she is already trimmed up or, if not trimmed, only rises about 25% an acts as if it hit an obstruction and won't go any further. destaf132@yahoo.com

While I am not familiar with your motor, if the tilt unit is hydraulic, it sounds like the piston is compressing under load. Check the oil level in the tilt unit.

Rcb

THANKS FOR THE REPLY. I SHOULD HAVE MENTIONED THAT I CHECKED THE PUMP FOR FLUID LEVEL AND IT WAS FULL. I ALSO CHECKED THE BYPASS SCREW AND IT WAS TIGHT.

Force tilt/trim motors and pumps are pretty bad about having internal O-Rings leak. I am going through the same problem on my 125, I just haven't had time to address the problem. Do a search for Force Tilt/Trim, there are numerous posts and some excellant replys on this problem. There is at least one reply in particular that pretty much guides you through the process of replacing O-Rings in the pump. Good Luck!!!

THANKS FOR THE HELP. I AM SOMEWHAT MECHANICALLY INCLINED AND I'LL GIVE THAT A TRY. BUT WITH ONLY A MONTH TO GO IN THE SEASON FOR ME, I'LL LIVE WITH WHAT I HAVE AND HAVE THE ENTIRE OFF SEASON TO FIX THE PROBLEM. WHAT HAVE I GOT TO LOSE. I'VE ALREADY BEEN TOLD THAT NEW PUMPS WITH INSTALLATION WOULD COST OVER $1200!

Rsavant I have a 125 force and am having the same trouble. If anyone on here could direct me in the right direction on how to check the fluid level in my trim/tilt unit it’d be appreciated.
