Weak tell-tale

I got this 1979 175hp Mariner outboard and at Idle the water pisser is kinda weak. Like it just dribles out, and even full throttle the pisser doesn't look as strong as a normal outboard. Ton of water coming out of exhaust ( doesn't look to abnormal) So Is this water drible at idle normal? The water pump is a year old, but I still have my concerns.<br /><br />Any help would be great.<br />Chris

Chris ,my first thoughts are no it's not normal.<br />if you changed the impeller last year.was it because you had no tell-tale at all or just for maitenance?<br />Sometimes when the impellers fail they break apart and get lodged in the water passage.also this being a 79. The housing that they impeller rides in may be warn out and leaking internally creating a low pressure to the tell tale.<br /><br />Just my $.02<br /><br />Rich

Im bought the motor before Impeller rebuilt. But if the water pressure is low, then how do I check the pressure and what should the pressure be at.<br /><br />Thanks<br />Chris

Remove cowling, follow tubes from tell tale back up engine, and make sure they aren't plugged. (unhook them at each fitting and inspect)

Anybody know how strong the pisser should be on a 1979 175hp Mariner motor, maybe its supposed to be weak looking.<br /><br />Chris
