1993 115hp. Mariner = Bought a new impeller and the center is plastic , pulled old one and it has a brass center . This old one I know is 4 years old without hardly any use and it looks and feels like new . With these fans rubbing so hard on the inside of the housing do you think I should use the old one with the brass center ? Also do you lube the inside walls of the housing so that it does not have a dry start up ? Thanx Cooter

Re: Impeller ? New Vs. Old & Do you lube inside housing?

hi cooter impellers can take a set if the motor has not been used for sme time also the rubber in the blades detereiorates over time & can cause a blade to disintergrate & block the cooling system with small pieces of rubber.Look for small cracks in the blades where they join the hub.It makes good sense to change the impeller & check the rest of the water pump at fairly regular intervals.I change my impeller every three seasons but I use my boat alot.I check the pump out twice a season. When reassembling I put a very thin smear of 24C grease in the housing to stop the impeller burning due to a dry start.Hope this helps :)
