'88 100hp Merc. Sea Ray Backs Off

Hi, just bought this boat, and it seems to run well most of the time. I know the prior owner has not used it much in the past 2 years. It will run fine at cruising spped for a while and then all of a sudden, the engine will back off a bout 1500 rpms for a minute or so...but if you leave the throttle forward, after a short time it will just kick back in to cruising speed again. I changed the plugs and fule filter, and it seems to do it less frequently. Any thoughts?<br />Thanks!

I have the 89 Sea Ray version of that engine. Mine did that once or twice years ago, and I ran some carb cleaner fuel additive through with a tank of gas and its never done it since.<br /><br />Dan

agree, sounds like fuel related. may be time to<br />remove and clean the carbs and install new carb<br />kits.<br />good luck,<br />M.Y.
