No power on 1979 150 V-6

I recently perchased a Mercury 150 v-6 1979 year model... The motor start easily and appears to have good compression,, But when u give it gas to get the boat on plane it revs up ok then dies... Not sure where to start looking for problems at ,, any ideas..

welcome aboard,<br />could be fuel related, could be spark...<br />(assuming it's not overheating)<br />start by getting a manual if you don't already<br />have one (bottom of this page or library)<br />have you done any maint. to the motor?<br />does the primer bulb stay hard? have someone<br />pump primer bulb when she starts to die and see<br />if it picks up again.<br />good luck,<br />M.Y.

Like trhe other gentleman said could be fuel or spark.I had the same problem with mine,the primebulb was old and weathered bad. I replaced the primebulb and now it runs great.hopefully yours will have the same problem,because Wal-Mart has replacement bulbs for about 9 bucks.Good luck

Thanks for the help,, Well we replaced the bulb and it got right up on plane.. witch now brings me to a new problem,,, after running ythe boat awhile,, and u come to a stop it dies as soon as u return the the gear shift to neutral,,,,, sounds like a carb adjustment but bot sure,, any ideas,,,
