77 merc 850 trim/tilt wiring ???

Can anyone tell me how to wire up the t/t motor/pump, solenoid and switch? All wires were cut when I got this project boat. The the trim switch is also missing..can a regular toggle switch be used? Thanks

Yes you can use two position momentary toggle switchs I use two one for full tilt up and down and one for trim while under power through the trim limter.. I will try and bring my book tomorrow as it has the trim wiring diagram in it. please provide an email address so i can get it to you.<br />ps does your trim motor unit have one or two solenoids?

it only has 1 solenoid attached to the motor<br /><br />email: luchoferrari@mindspring.com<br /><br />ps - there are 2 wires run along with the 4 hoses going down towards the pump but aren't attached to anything, do they go to the switches,pump, or solenoid?<br />update: 3 wires at motor black(neg)/blue+(up)/green+(down) I found a simple diagram for a (2) solenoid system but not one for this (1) solenoid setup, can I just add another solenoid and<br />what are the 2 wires from the rams used for?<br />thanks again

Let me know if you need more info.<br /><br />The only real difference in the two and one setup is the up on a one solenoid system use the solenoid and the down is direct wired. In the two solenoid system both up and down use solenoids. I like the two solenoid system. I also have a 15amp reset able fuse in the power going to the pump. It originally came with a 30 amp fuse, but I had a switch stick onetime and like to have burn out the motor before it popped.

thanks Rick <br />the only question left is if the battery pos 12v<br />goes to the 4th solenoid terminal or directly to the B terminal on the key switch -the picture is a bit unclear

The battery power lead and the switch power lead both connect to one side of the large posts on the solenoid. On your solenoid you should have two large post and two small posts . the small posts are marked F and S. The battery power source and the switch power (going to switch) source connect to one of the large posts. The blue wire going to the pump connects to the other large post on the opposite side of the solenoid. the blue wire which comes from the switch connects to the small S post. The F post should connect to the battery negative side and to the pump frame (ground) or to the black wire coming from your pump. My system does not have a black wire coming from the motor so I have to ground to the frame. Hope this helps.
