71 9.8HP Merc prop unit came out - ho to put back?

Took the lower unit off 71 merc 9.8 and jiggled the the propeller and out popped the whole thing. How do I put it back in? Do I thread it? There was a little 1 inch bolt/pin that fell out too.<br /><br />Thanks!!!

Hi Orvis,<br /> The propshaft & carrier unit is held in by a retainer spanner nut. Yours either disintegrated or came out with the carrier & propshaft. The "pin" is the shift pin and needs to go into the hole in the center of the propshaft, pointed side out. Make sure all surfaces are clean, o-ring in good condition, etc. Might want to take it to a Merc dealer for this, as they have the proper tool to tighten the spanner nut...<br />- Scott
