Just bought a 2005 Glastron SX175 with a volvo penta 3.0. This thing does 43 with a 19 pitch aluminum prop at 4800-5000 rpm.. I thought the rpm's were a tad high so i purchased a Ron Hill 21 pitch 4 blade signature series Stainless prop. Just trying to figure out what expectations should be...i am hoping not to lose any top end, but more so trying to protect my motor a little...tell me your opinions please!

Going from a 19-inch three blade to 19-inch four blade would likely cut down RPM as well as a tad bit on top end but it would help hole shot. Therefore, going from a 19-inch three blade to a 21-inch four blade may cut things down more than you want as well as cutting down hole shot. Too many variables to say with any degree of accuracy. Some props like a particular hull shape better than others -- or they work better with certain engine/gearing combinations. Its all a crap shoot. Theoretically the 21 should put you in the 4400 RPM range. As for protecting the engine, you can always throttle back a little when lightly loaded yet have the oomph the 19 gives you when heavily loaded. Best of both worlds.

It is also important to understand what you are going to be using the boat for. Do you want top end speen, or are you gonna pull skiers. But to me, 5000 rpm doesn't seem overly high....wouldn't want to go any higher, but i could be wrong...<br /><br /><br />Belchy

I hate glastron! <br />I think the ronhill sig 4blade will knock your rpm down to 4400-4500 and raise your top speed to 45-46 mph. <br />You got to love these little rockets

i figured i would lose a little hole shot going from a 19 to a 21 pitch, so i went with a 4 blade to try and get some hole shot back. if my hole shot is similiar and my speeds stay above 40, i am happy. Also it seems there are Glastron 175 sx's out there with the 3.0 that came with a 21 pitch prop. I am guessing thats why mine is hitting 5000 rpm

update for ya....put on the new 21 pitch prop this weekend...went from 43mph up to 48 mph. brought my rpms's down from 5000 to 4800...lost a little hole shot, but all in all happy
