No more than $100.00, if that. I know they made the Super Hurricane in 1958-59, but not sure about the 60's. It would be a 22 HP.

web page

Or this one: 20 HP

web page

Please post model and serial. Lots of variations between an early '60s Super Hurricane and one from the late 1960s. Some good, some bad....
- Scott

Hi Larry,
The '65s weren't bad motors. The powerhead was a proven design, but as usual with Mercs - there's a catch. The lower units are generally the weak spot, with water intrusion being the cause. Mercury used a grade of steel in their drive shafts and prop shafts that was susceptable to rusting. They would typically rust just below the water pump, right where the upper gearcase seal rides. This would make the seal useless as it's trying to seal a rough, rusty surface, allowing water in, and ultimately the gearcase would fail. There are stainless sleaves that can be used to shore up the sealing area, and I have had success using Marine-Tex to fill the pits and afford a better sealing surface. Whichever way you go about it, it's something to check.
- Scott
