I have a '89 mercury 70hp outboard and I'm wondering if the plug wires can be changed or if i have to buy something else which includes plug wires? I changed the caps but i don't know how to remove the other end of the wires connected to the engine. Thanks for any help.

Re: plug wires

Hi Haustow.. The wires can be changed without replacing anything else...

The ends just push into the ignition coil.... give em' a pull and they'll pop right out... ;)

I would like to add, there should be steel caps on the other end of the wires that plug into the coils. You will need new ones also.

TMD

Also, they are special leads that are not like car leads (Need to be changed regularly). They are expensive and shouldn't be replaced unless they are old, faulty or corroded.
