mercury 50 hp no power

hi,i have a 1984-1987 mercury 50 hp wich does not get its revs up while under load (in water).it starts first go,compresion in all cylinders is good,fuel checked,sounds smooth,nice 4 big blue sparks,stator checked,everything looks fine but when i put it in the water it cannot even get up on the plain.Took it to a outboard mechanic and after 5 days of searching for the problem even the mechanic cannot figure out whats wrong whith it.any sugestions?please help somebody.thank you.

When you say "fuel checked" i assume you meant the entire fuel system.<br />Have you changed props recently?

Baki<br /><br />What is your Serial No (Found on transom bracket) ? Does your motor have blue or brown bands on the cowling wrap ? Sounds like a spun prop to me. Thare are some really competent advisers on iboats who will sort it out for you. If you are in Oz, you might just have to wait until the US Iboaters wake up :D

I had the same problem with my 1982 Mercury 50hp. It started with assorted ignition problems. After resolving the ignition issues, it would run great at low to medium speeds, but would not rev but to about 2500 rpm. <br /><br />I finally found the problen to be an exhaust restriction. There was enough carbon/coke in the exhaust outlet for a barbeque. About 80% restricted. Cleaned it out and now it runs great. If all else fails, you mignt want to look in this area.<br /><br />Cutbait
