Where Is The Serial Number On My Motor???

I can't find the serial number on my older Merc 1150 Inline 6. Where is it? I need to find it to find out what year it is.

I wouldn't recommend leaning over too far with that broken neck... <br />It should be on the hinged section of the bracket.

The only number I could really find on the block is this: 852-4741 with a "W" under it. Its a Merc 115, Thunderbolt ignition, 1150. It has the black plastic cowl w/blue stripes.

The Bracket(Mount)that holds your motor to the boat. It should be stamped on there or have a tag attached to it.

Okay I found it. It's 3273884 is this a 1984 model?

Well It's the same year as the boat. Not bad for $100. I'll post a pic if anyone cares to see. I'm sure I'll be posting more, this is a great board. Thanks guys for your help.

Don't know yet. It is supposed to. I need to get a battery and hook up all the wires, and i think I'm going to have to be careful with that because I don't want to get any of them crossed.<br />I just talked to one of the original owners and he said he put a lot of money into it but had nothing but problems with the motor running in the water. he said it runs great on the muffs but once you put it in the water it will die.

Don't know what your level of expertise is on Outboards. But I do know that these old Mercs are good old motors and the people on this site can give you some great guidance on just about every aspect. A manual is a good investment, but there is no substitute for some well directed advice from people who have owned and worked on them.

My experience isn't much on these motors. I have a good bit on automotive, but not these. I am looking forward to getting it running and getting help from this board. I'm really glad I found this site with very helpful people. Thanks.

Running on the hose and not in the water is a common problem. Remove the carbs and clean and install kits.
