Dont use a booster by itself, you must have a battery connected. The booster will provide no volatge regulation and could damage your control modules. Borrow the one from your auto if you can, you can always recharge it and put it back. I find that when you are dealing with no starts its best to have a good heavy duty battery as you will be doing lots of cranking if you have a problem. Try and borrow a fuel tank and hook it up so you can start seeing what happening. I would do a compression check ASAP to see if all your work is a lost cause, if its low on comp, you have lots ahead of you.

Greg

Hi Bones
Since a Two stroke motor gets it's oil with the fuel, you are cranking on a motor with no oil in it. For testing purposes get an oil can and squirt a shot of oil in each carb and each cylender. Also your starter motor may need to be cleaned and oiled. You will have to remove and disassemble it for this. Even with everything working perfectly, You should never crank the starter motor more than about three seconds at any one time. Crank 3 sec, wait, then crank 3 more. If you Crank the starter continualy they will burn up. I see guy's all the time. There motor won't start. They crank til the battery goes dead and the starter is fried. The funny part is all this could have been avoided if they just would have remembered to connect the fuel line. If an outboard won't start after a couple of three sec bursts on the starter, you need to find out why. The first question to ask yourself is, did I follow proper starting procedure? Next look for a mechanical reason. The squeeky noise may be the water pump empeller, I don't know. Allways use a known good battery recomended for your motor for testing as well as running.

Thanks guys for the replies. Yes, I was cautious and only turned the engine a couple of times, and this I did only about a dozen times over 30 minutes. As you can tell, I checked the starter temperature with my fingers.

Also thanks for the oil tip. I will do that.

Thanks for the tip on the booster pack. Sure hope I didn't fry anything...but the 'sounds' didn't change over the course of my 'tests'.

Now, another thing I forgot to mention: The trim/tilt motors just hum when I flick the toggle on the shifter. So, I didn't get a satisfactory result on this test either. A humming noise, yes - i.e. power gets there - but no movement on lifting the motor. I assume that's probably also due to lack of power.

Next test with a decent battery, some new spark plugs and the fuel tank and line. That's on my shopping list anyways.

Bones,

Not to beat a dead horse, but Battery Battery Battery!
The tilt and trim should work fine with just the battery. After that I would start to look at all of your electrical connections.
On the stand my T/T works fine most of the time. When it is not it is one of 2 things, The battery is weak, or the nuts on the battery are lose. (I only finger tighten them on the stand) In both cases I get the same humming sound that you are getting.

But with the history of it ran until it was not flushed after running in slat water, make me lean towards a dirty or lose connection some where in the system.

Scott
