Does anyone have a description or manufacturer of the water pressure sensor on the opti-max's that has a p/n of 881879-9?

Where did you get that part number? It doesn't show up in the parts catalog.

Re: Part Identification

It is stamped on the part itself. It also has a date code of D80803. It is the sensor that runs the water pressure for the smartcraft gauges.

Re: Part Identification

Looks like you're after the Water Sensor Module Assembly. What Motor, Year and Serial #?

Re: Part Identification

Hi Rick, that sounds like the creature. These are not my engines, they are the opti-max's that Triton uses to power its boats. They would be brand new engines, I can get you ser#'s if you need them.<br /><br />What Triton does is take out the smartcraft instruments and they use mine. They want to put a water pressure gauge on the boat, and I want to use the existing sensor, so I need to know what kind of signal this sensor puts out (resistance, voltage, etc.)<br /><br />Thanks

Re: Part Identification

That sensor works through the ECM and will not function independantly. That same question was asked in a recent Tech class I attended. Also, that sensor provides water pressure information to the ECM for the Gaurdian system on that engine. I don't have the part number check with your local dealer for a kit to add the analog water pressure gauge.<br /><br />Hope this helps. :)

Re: Part Identification

Thanks dilligaf. The kit is for the standard mechanical pressure gauge (T off of the tell tale). What they are looking for is an electric gauge, and I was hoping to use that sensor. It has to put some sort of output signal to the ECM, most likely a voltage between 0 and 5 volts. That is why I am looking for the sensor or the mfg. of the sensor so I can try to build a gauge around that signal that it outputs.

Re: Part Identification

Exactly my point. If you try to run a gauge off the sender that supplies the information to the ECM, you change the value of the sensor and the ECM will not recognize the signal it receives, showing a fault in the engine. <br /><br />Of course I may have completely missed your message that you want to run a gauge off the existing sensor, right? Or were you looking to buy a new sensor and tee it into the tell-tale and use an electronic gauge (strikes me as a lot of work).

Re: Part Identification

I see. Nope you read me right dilligaf. I guess I will be using a regular 30psi sender to drive the electric gauge. Thanks guys, you have been a big help. I won't look like a huge dummy when I try to make a presentation on this now.
