Can anyone direct me to a source for the top casting/piece/part. It mounts to the front and rear skelotonized castings/parts of the power head. The front and rear parts are rubber mounted top and bottom. The part I need bolts to the top of those parts and the cowl sandwiches to it.

Hope I can find one. Mine has three of four mount points damaged. Only other option is to fabricate new missing segments and TIG weld to existing part. I can do, but a pain as I have to do the work "G" job style.

I only have inline 6 stuff, but post your serial number, I'll get a part number, and ask around where some Mercoholics are found.

I assume you mean the "Top Hat" of the motor?

-W

Also, please indicate if that's the 3 or 4 cylinder 650. I'm lousy with the the little fellers.

-W

Thanks for the help Clams,
The s/n is 3456352, a 1973 three cylinder. First year made (as opposed to the 4 cyl) I believe. Photo is of the part I need. Top hat??

Last resort is to fab/weld up, which I am good at. But, G work is a time consuming challenge.
Pat - i saw a whole 650 in the local calssifieds for $100 AUD last week - thats ~$70 US!!! had gearbox problems - but would probably do what you needed... shipping of the whole outboard from Australia to the US might hurt you a little though!!! ;)

best of luck

Troy

Ohhh man Troy, that shipping would kill me!!!! (well, maybe not, but my Bride would!!!)

Sure wish there was an outboard grave yard around here. If this were a GM I'd be done scrounging already. ;)

The part number is 60117. It's unique to the 3 cylinder 65hp. I'll ask on the other board and see.

-W

If you are in Milwuakee WI, a closer contact would be Steve's Marine Service in Winneconne WI. He has a ton of older Mercury/Mariner/Force/Chrysler stuff laying around. I found that he had alot of stuff for my old 402 that nobody else could manage to find. I don't have his number handy, but you should be able to find it through telephone information.

Good luck!

Glad I could help. While I only personally deal in inline six parts, I have some good connections amongst the larger body of Mercaholics. :D

-W

Re: "73 Merc 650 Casting Needed

Pat, thanks for the kind words. Your part is off in the mail, you should see it early next week, as long as it doesn't get stuck in the ice floes back there!!!

It's snowing just a bit in Seattle but not over in my neck of the woods, at least you can go outside and not freeze to death! 18 out here was cold enough, I don't envy your winters at all. It's a balmy 43 here and I even see a touch of blue sky up there somewhere.

Stay close to the fireplace.........ed
