I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I have a 1500 series 150hp Mercury out board motor. I had a mechanic take a look at it and he said that the carbs on it where in too bad of shape to boil out and clean. He then removed the carbs to see if he could find a new pair or used pair. He was not able to locate a pair I was wondering if anyone knows where I can order the carbs from without buying them through Mercury who wants an arm and a leg. (I can buy a new engine but a little less powerful for what mercury wants for them.)

welcome aboard,
please explain why the carbs you now have are no
longer good? not much that can't be fixed on them
unless there's some unusual physical damage...
good luck,
M.Y.

First of all, it's not a pair, it's a set of three. :D

Secondly, I've never seen a set I couldn't clean, unless they were left out to the weather and really corroded up.

And lastly, I have about 20 of those carbs on hand. Email clams_canino@comcast.net to talk.

-W

see a different Mechanic. He's trying to burn you into buying new carbs, which are NOT cheap. Yours can surely be rebuilt. Run away and or them yourself...

PS- I would not be afraid to buy from Clams. He know his stuff...

As stated in earlier posts:::: Run....... You can find used (Or new) Carbs cheap from a lot of places. I saw some on Ebay yesterday....... I belieive you need three, not two.

Re: 1500 series 150hp Mercury

Yes that was a typo there are three. I thought you could rebuild them. I don’t know much about marine mechanics but I am pretty good with normal car/truck carbs I rebuilt the one on my 49' Chevy Apache pickup. But Like I said I don’t know how marine stuff is maybe I should just give it a try. They are not cracked and don’t seem to have too much wrong with them. And thanks for the advice I need all I can get because I thought if I tore into it I may get in over my head. So thanks again for the help.

The only thing I think could make these carbs useless is if they are corroded inside the float bowl and passages. Sometimes I have seen them corrode beyond rebuilding. Still you can buy used good ones cheap....
