Re: 94 maniner 2 problems

Do you have a radio on the boat that relies on power for station memory? Any other electronics that need a small amount of power to retain settings? Will the motor turn over if you jiggle the shifter? If so, then it's probably the safety switch, located in the remote control. Could be bad or just loose. You would need to take it apart to determine whats wrong. What HP is the motor and what is the serial number?

Re: 94 maniner 2 problems

Fishfinders retain there setting when connected to power. Neutral switch may be located in the engine compartment on the starboard side, along the shift control cable. It was on my old merc. But I assumed they updated that by now to incorporate it into the shift control. check it out. Do you know the Horsepower and serial number so that we may help you further? Hard to tell what we are working with....

hello
a methodical planned approach to trouble shooting will save you and the next tech a lot of time. some mercs will draw a few milliamps through the regulator . when you attach the cable you will see a spark. put an amp meter in seriers with the ground cable and as you watch the meter dissconnect the red lead ad the regulaor/rectifier.
as far as the starting goes verify that the fuse supplying 12 to the keyswitch harness is good. nuetral start switches rarely fail yet get blamed a lot. the wire color for the start switch is yellow with a red tracer. if you dont own a multimeter or are unsure how to use it then take the boat in before the problem is compounded.
good luck and keep posting
