MERCURY 90 HP, S/N 0G175755, NOT SURE OF THE YEAR, CAN'T FIND A CHART TO HELP WITH THAT. ON TO THE PROBLEM. MY BOAT STARTED FINE IN THE MORNING BEFORE MY TRIP. WENT ON TO THE RAMP AND GOT THE BOAT ON THE WATER, IT WOULD NOT GO IN GEAR, THE BUTTON IN THE CENTER WONT POP OUT, THE MOTOR WAS RUNNING SO I TRIED TO GET IT IN REVERSE AND OUT OF THE RAMP. IT DIED ON ME AT THAT POINT, NOW IT SEEMS LIKE IT DIED IN GEAR AND WONT START AT ALL.
1- HOW DO I FIX THE PROBLEM WITH THE CONTROL BOX TO BE ABLE TO GET IT BACK IN GEAR OR AT LEAST IN NEUTRAL SO I CAN START THE MOTOR AND FLUSH IT. 2- THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE IN THE CONTROL BOX AND NOT WITH THE MOTOR, A FRIEND CAME AND PUSHED THE GEAR CABLE ON THE BACK OF THE MOTOR AND I WAS ABLE TO CRANK THE MOTOR, WON'T START I THINK ITS FLOODED BUT THAT IS NOT SERIOUS. I GUESS MY MAIN PROBLEM/CONCERN IS WHAT DO YOU THINK IS WRONG AND WHAT CAN YOU SUGGEST. PLEASE HELP, I CAN'T SLEEP KNOWING THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH MY BOAT. THANKS SO MUCH, CARLOS

You are going to have to get the throttle only button to come out.

Place the shift handle in the neutral position. Pull the throttle only button straight out.
This will expose a hex head bolt that must be removed in order to disassemble the control box.

Perhaps the wiring for the neutral start switch or the wiring for the lanyard safety switch have become tangled with the pivot of the throttle.

Had the same problem with mine. Dealer took it apart and cleaned it, worked next two times out than same thing happend again. Brought it back to the dealer and they replaced the whole control box. Been working fine since. Don't know how old yours is but mine was covered under warrenty.

We see this a lot with the Merc 3000. Merc has put out several bullitens and made several upgrades. We would take them apart, clean them, put them together and they'd work a week or two if lucky. We finially decided if a merc side mount has problems to replace the entire guts. Cost 120.00 and saves countless cussing hours.

Re: quicksilver 3000 classic stuck in neutral

I want to thank everyone very much for taking the time to help me, your opinions meant a lot to me. My final desicion was to go to a certified Mercury Marina and they told me what many have said, trying to fix it would be just a temp thing so I'm having the whole thing replaced with the same model I had on. This is expensive stuff, plus the labor. I guess I need to start learning how to do some of these things my self...
Thanks, see ya in the water...
