Oil injection AND premix

I just brought a boat that has a 2001 mercury
90/65 jet motor with a 8 hp Yamaha kicker. The
mercury injects its own oil, but the yamaha is a
premix. The old owner just premixed ALL gas at
a 100 to 1 in the tank, and let the mercury
inject its oil to this mixture.
Could this be O.K. and just buy a little extra
protection for the mercury, or will it fowl plugs
and gum rings? Don't care about extra smoke, and
100 to 1 not much oil. Don't know if I trust a
oil injection system. Advise PLEASE!!!!!

Re: Oil injection AND premix

You oil injection system is past the injection woes years and I would keep it. As to the oil mixture issue, I wouldnt do it like the previous owner did, Get another small tank for the kicker and mix it at 50:1. Unless you are using Amsoil, then the 100:1 is ok! More oil isnt necesarily a good thing, Let the oil injection do its job and you will be fine. I would use a full synthetic injector oil in your engine as jets are usually WOT most of the time and it will offer you more protection!

LubeDude;
Thank you for your advice. I think that is JUST what I am going to do. Question = The yamaha
book says to mix at 100 to 1, but you said to mix it at 50 to 1. Should I increase to 50-1 ???
THANKS!!!
Dennis

Most outboards run off of a 50-1 mix. But do whatever your manual tells you to do. If 100-1 is what the recommend that's what you should do, just make sure they are talking about standard 2-cycle oil or synthetic or both.

Sure, absolutly, I just wasnt aware that there were engines that required 100:1. Follow manufactures recomendation.
