What's the difference between 150 and 175 Black Max 1992

I currently have a 150 black max. I'm currious what the differences are between the 150 and 175 versions of this outboard.<br /><br />Thanks!

Different Bore size but same block. Carbs are different also. Cylinder head/head gaskets, pistons etc. different accordingly. But just about everything else is the same...

Sorry KC you are mistaken. The block, bore, pistons and crank are identical/interchangable. The difference is in carbs and timing.

I stand corrected,<br /><br />I looked at some schematics and noticed different part#'s at least for the cylinder head and gasket. Some models have different pistons also (different part#). It may just depend on the serial number... I know the carb assy's are different.

I'm looking at a Seloc manual "Powerhead Specifications". It says the 1992 150 is a 2.0l and the 175 is 2.5l. Except on EFI models they are the same size? Guess I'll have to look at the engine and see what size it says it is. Anyone know where to find that on the outboard? I know I have carbs but I could have sworn it said it was a 2.5l.

Once again I stand corrected. I was thinking about the newer models. Those are all 2.5L the earlier 135 and 150 models are 2.0L. My bad <br /><br />Sorry for the confusion.

The only difference is the Carbs and Timing. I have had some variance on the reedblocks but that may be related to carb type.

I only have the 150. Is the displacement displayed somewhere on the powerhead or cover? I'm not anywhere near my boat right now it's in storage so I can't look at the # right now.

I don't think it's on the block anywhere, but the last time I was thinking..... <br /><br />I checked with my V-6 guru (20+years on V6 and I6 Mercs) and he tells me that 1992 model year 150 and 175 horsepower engines are 2.5L blocks, so the carbs and ignition are the major differences between the 2.

If they are Black Max's, I'd find it more likely that the have different bore sizes, piston sizes, heads, gaskets... Mid to late 80's motors anyway. 92's I'm not sure about..

Arriva,<br /><br />If I were you, I'd find out what the year is on both motors.... Call up mercury marine (use your mobile phone with free long distance) and ask them... I've tried to help, but there are too many different years to take into consideration...You will never know for sure until you at least know that, and possibly will need the serial#'s also...
