I have a quick question about the fuel economy that we're getting on a 1986 Mercury XR2 Black Max serial number A905844 150hp. Took it out last week and it was pretty cold with the wind so we only rode for about 30 minutes. During these 30 minutes about 5 were spent idling and then 25 were spent at about 3000 rpm which is about 30mph. Also, we pushed it up to about 5000 and then 5800 rpm for no more than a minute at a time twice. So on the way home we stopped at the gas station to refill it for next time and the 12 gallon tank held 3.5 gallons and the tank was full when we started as well. So, is 3.5 gallons spent idling and mostly at 3000rpm normal fuel economy for this type of engine. Also, it is mounted on a 17'6" 1983 Norris Craft fish-and-ski boat that is a tri hull shallow v. Thanks in advance for the help.
