Opti max Idle

I've searched for an answer without any luck. What controls the idle speed of the Opti Max? I know the computer ultimatly does but what about the sensors. Will a bad throttle position sensor cause high idle or would it be the shift interupter sensor? The reason I ask is my motor started surging at idle then eventually started idling high(around 1000 RPM) It's a 1999 200 Opti. My manual doesn't help very much. I changed the fuel lines, water seperator, and priming bulb with no effect. The motor runs great just higher than normal Idle. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks

The throttle position sensor determines where the ECM should make the engine run.If you look at the port side of the motor you will see two cables going in.Have a friend put it in neutral and throttle up and you will see the throttle at work. The throttle arm must rest firmly with the stop screw against the block every time the throttle is reduced to idle.
Did this "surging from idle to 1000" happen with the control in the idle position? If so I would be looking into fuel pressure/air pressure.Sears sells a decent fuel gauge made by actron with a schrader fitting on it.On your engine you will find two ports with schrader fittings, one is air the other is fuel. The fuel should be ten Psi above the air pressure. So your readings will be 80 PSI air and 90 PSI fuel,or 82 and 92 respectively if the SB was done. Good Lu :) ck

Thanks! I'll go pick up the gauge tonight and give it a try this week and let you know what I find.

OK, I checked the fuel Pressure it is 91.5 PSI, tha Air Pressure is 82 PSI. I know it's off by a half a psi but the numbers look good to me. So what should I look at? Thanks

My only thought off the top of my head is that maybe one of your fuel injectors is sticking a bit.But if that was true I would expect alot more than a .5 psi drop.Did you verify linkages were correct? I'll have to think a bit more and get back to you. :D

Any news on this? My 2000 opti also surges but only about 10min after idling to the inlet. Once I pump the bulb again and hit it it is perfect for the rest of the day even if trolling.

Changed and checked fuel connections.

Today I get a couple throttle faults also. Doesn't always happen though.
