Please help me I have a 1990 Mariner V150hp my problem is that one side of the spark plugs are not giving out sparks? This is what I have tested, by the way I have twin 150’s on my boat. What I did is checked the switch boxes/ power pack. I changed them from the running engine to the engine with no spark. Still no spark what else can I check Coil, trigger, stator? And what is a good way to test them?

The best way to test the statoe is to swap the stator wires (Red Blue on one pack, Red/white blue white on the other) if you swap them and the problem changes banks, the stator pack is to blame, if you swap them and the problem stays on the same bank the CDI pack is to blame. Seems you have done this already, so I'd look at the stator. Here are some basic stator tests:

Between Blue and Red wires (vented or serrated flyweel, 40 amp charge) 3500-4200 ohms,

non vented flywheel (16 amp charge system) 4450-4650 ohms.

Do the same test between the blue/white and red/white wires.

Next check between Ground and Red wire

Vented Flywheel 90-140 ohms
Non vented 65-75 ohms

Repeat test for red/white and ground. Results should be within the specified range as well.

Please note Vented flywheel indicates 40 amp charge system, when viewed from the top you can see the stator under the flywheel through diagonal slots aroung the circumfrence of the flywheel. if you don't have those slots, you have the 16 amp charge system, and should refer to those readings.

On the engine with the problem, do what waterproof suggests initally....
We are going to test the stator!

You are going to have to remove the outer switchbox to get access to the inner one....

Then, remove the blue and red wires from the top of the INNER switch box and remove the blue/white and red/white wires from the top of the outer box... Switch them from one box to another...
Don't disconnect any other leads to the boxes when doing this unless you have to, to get the others loose, but make sure everything is reconnected before you crank the engine...
After switching the above leads, crank the engine and see if the "no-spark" condition on one bank, moves to the other side. If it does, you need a new stator...
Good luck, and let us know...

Don't trust ohm readings, they don't confirm anything, trust me, I know! This is the best way to determine if the stator is working properly...

At this time I now have no spark at all on both sides. I have done the switch with the inner and outer switchboxes and still no spark? Could the key ignition have something to do with it? Also I have a question on when I removed the stator and replaced with new one. After installing the flywheel is there any specific way the flywheel should be placed? I just placed it back and maid sure the key was lined up. Looks like I might have to take it into a shop

Re: Need Help on 150hp Mariner

Just an Update found out that I have a kill switch behind the center console that my kids must have turned off and my key switch was bad? Now my problem is the engine runs fine without a load on it. But once I put a load on this engine my RPM only go up only to 2500 RPM's? It runs fine in neutral and RPM go up to 4500. What do I need to look for?

Other then taking them apart is there any spray I can use to clean them? Also looked at the spark plug wires some have small cracks on them could this be part of the problem also?

Yes the cracks could be shorting out the spark to your plugs. You could run it in the dark of the night or in a garage w/ lights out for a VERY SHORT period of time (on a hose) to see if there is sparks jumping around. Yes, there are sprays out there. If you are up and running, mix up a strong mix of SEA FOAM in a 3-6 gal can and run the engine, it will clean out your cards and do a little decarb at the same time. Good luck.
