Out Drive Position

Do you keep your outdrive in trailer position when parked? I have for many years, and recently I was told I should trim it down when I park it for a week??? I also have clips on the pistons to reduce the bounce possibilities. I do trim it down when I store it for the winter. Any one else ever heard this or did this?

I always trim mine down when it's parked at home (in-season and off-season) to relieve stretching and pressure from the bellows. The jury is out on whether it really does any good, but general consensus seems to think it does.

During the week, I trim my drive down, and trim down during the winter also. It is supposed to relieve stretching, like craze1 said.<br /><br />On the flip side......my boat sat for two years with the drive triimed up, and doesn't leak.(It will now that I said something)

I have also read that it should be down during the winter so that any water in the outdrive will flow out. That way you reduce any chance of ice formation and ice damage resulting from trapped water inside the outdrive unit.
