72 merc not getting fuel

i have a 1972 merc 115 outboard, it only has about 70 hours on it, compresion is 122-132 on all 6 , spark is good, I have fuel to all 3 carbs but it will not start. plugs are new, and if I pull them out and spray some fuel into the cylinders it will run for a second. ANY help would be great.....thanks p.s. squezzing the bulb did not help.

Hi Davette

How long have you had this motor? Is this a new issue or did it start well previously?

Older models especially can have their own method and tricks to starting. Is your choke working OK?

Keep posting.

Greg

HI GREG, I bought a 1972 glastron gt 160 from the orginal owner, with the orginal 72 merc 115 on it a year ago. It ran last year, but not that great. It would not ilde in the water and i only got about 4700-5300 rpm out of it. and yes the choke works, thanks.

davette, It sounds like your cylinders are not getting fuel. Are the carbs clean? If the idle passages are clogged, it will run only when fule is sprayed (via a hand spray). Probably a good idea to disasemble each carb, clean 'em up and reassemble with new gaskets.
