leaking prop

i have a 99 15 horse 4-stroke leaking oil from the prop. is this a bad seal or what?

What color is the oil? Black, or brown like lower unit oil...

First verify you are getting water in your lower unit by removing the drain plug and cheking oil. If it is white or water comes out you have a leak. If this is the case you are problably leaking oil from the bearing cage and it will have to be removed and a new seal purchased. If the oil was black it might just be carbon from the exhaust leaking down on your prop. This is probably not the case because this is a four stroke and black oil would be two stroke oil mixed with carbon.

one other question, water sputters out of the exhaust also. is this normal???
