Re: Removing lower unit

Well it is now 21:37 Blackpool, England time and I can confirm that the lower unit is now officially divorced from the power head. It did not give up without a struggle and it binded untill the last millimetre..This task, without main dealer intervention could not have been sorted without all of your advice and most importantly support and I am at this moment lifting a bottle of beer or ten in tribute to you lot, UR the Best, ***XX :p

Keith,

You asked for year and model earlier and didn't get a reply. I've just looked up using the serial number you gave in your first post and nothing correlates. Is it a 3 cylinder of 4?

Chris.........

3 cylinder.
50 9586000 onwards 1990 3 cyl
Fit a complete W/P kit including the water tube seal and top drive shaft seals (1/2") with new impeller and wear plate. Grease the drive shaft splines lightly when you re-assemble.

Re: Removing lower unit

It's a 3 cyl and as I thought around about 1989, Unicorn has nailed it down to 1990 with thanks. Funnily enough, Unicorn describes a water tube seal of which I think I have forgot to replace, the syptom is that when I run the engine up in a big bucket, although it is pumping water through the pee hole even at idle it is also spitting water out of the two upper exhaust ports just below the pee tube, also running a little lumpy..any ideas appreciated..

Regards All......Keith B..

The water tube seal is not essential to replace. Just thought that while the L/U is off... all those bits are pretty cheap. The water coming out of the holes I think may be normal too.. If you have a water pressure gauge fitted, it should show around 3-4 lbs at cruise and about 5-7 at WOT. If You're getting near that your cooling system is OK. Just get someone to drive the boat while you hand feel the pee stream... Should be warm to warm/hot but not uncomfortable to touch.
