I have a 1977 Mercury 20hp, Serial number 4580916. Well it started firing only one cylinder. When I got the cover off and began checking the switchbox I found a wire that had deteriorated and was almost broke in two. The switchbox is operational but these wires are the weak link. Is there a way, or a company that will rebuild these switchboxes?

I checked on the price of a replacement and the cheapest I have found is around $250 shipped. Any leads, or help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Ginder75

Re: Switchbox??? Repair/Replace?

Also,

Is there a difference between the official Mercury Switchbox and those CDI boxes offered by some other companies as a replacement. Some of these alternates do not have the same wire ends or layout when compared to the original equipment.

I know that this is going to cost me a pretty penny, but the fewer the pennies the better.

Anyone recomend a particular model or company for a replacement.
